Texas Creative Arts Academy Produces “13″ and Benefits Taylor’s Gift Foundation

COPPELL – Texas Creative Arts Academy announces the production of the all-teen musical “13” in three performances in May. A local, all-teen cast is currently in rehearsal and will perform on the Dupree Theatre Stage at the Irving Arts Center.

Local theatre goers will recognize favorite actor/director BJ Cleveland as the director of this Jason Robert Brown score. “We’ve assembled an unbelievably talented cast,” remarked Cleveland, Artistic Director for TCAA. “Our Academy is based in Coppell, but we’ve got kids from Plano, Carrollton, and McKinney in this cast. We can’t wait to get it up on the Dupree Stage…it’s a terrific venue.”

The Show:

Evan Goldman has it all – he’s popular, has the ‘perfect’ family and lives in the greatest city in the world – New York. That is until his parents get divorced and he’s forced to move - to a small town in Indiana. Uprooted from his old life, he has to make new friends and somehow maneuver the minefield of High School to become part of the ‘in-crowd’. With wit and searing honesty, 13 is a hilarious, high-energy musical for all ages. It’s about the lessons one learns throughout life and the discovery that the journey to who you want to be starts with discovering who you are. Featuring an explosive rock score by celebrated composer Jason Robert Brown (Parade, The Last Five Years) 13 is a grown-up story about growing up.

The Community:

TCAA also announces that proceeds from the run of “13” will benefit a newly-formed local charity, Taylor’s Gift – a foundation formed in honor of Taylor Storch, a 13 year old Coppell youth who died tragically in a snow skiing accident in Colorado this past spring break. “Taylor’s dad, Todd, is a friend of mine,” said Donna Park, Executive Director of TCAA. “We wanted to do something to support his efforts and honor his daughter, so I am thrilled to be able to do so with this project.”

“My wife, Tara, and I couldn’t be more honored and proud for this production to be the first official fundraiser of the Taylor’s Gift Foundation,” said Todd Storch, Taylor’s dad and foundation president. “The City of Coppell continues to open its heart to our family and we are so proud to work tirelessly on behalf of Taylor’s Gift Foundation. Donna is doing fantastic work with our community’s youth and we are honored to be a partner of Texas Creative Arts Academy.”

Performances for “13” are Thursday, May 13 at 7:30pm, Friday, May 14 at 7:30pm and Saturday, May 15 at 2pm. Tickets are available at the Irving Arts Center Box Office or online at www.irvingartscenter.org. Additional sponsor/donor opportunities can be obtained by contacting Jan Leathers at jpleathers1@verizon.net.
